The Hudsons Site

Image
Bedrock is redeveloping the  Hudson’s site  on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit. They broke ground in 2017 on what was then proposed as a  $1 billion mixed-use development . It has since faced delays and design changes, but completion is expected in 2024, Bedrock said in early 2022. The skyscraper is expected to be about 685 feet tall and the plan calls for 1.5 million square feet of hotel, office, dining, retail, residential, event and parking space, as well as a plaza. The site was home to the former Hudson’s department store, which initially opened in 1891 and was for a time the  tallest department store in the world . It closed to the public in 1983 and was imploded in 1998. Sources: Bedrock, Detroit News, Detroit Historical Society It has been a long time coming but construction is finally underway.        February 3, 2021                                 ...

Wayne State University Construction

Image
4/10/21 - I believe this is going to be the new Wayne State Theater but there is on information no their website. This is looking north onCass Ave.       I'm not sure what this structure is. It is just north of I-94 on Anthony Wayne Drive.     And near that structure will be a new overpass that empties onto Anthony Wayne Drive. This is looking north towards New Center Area.     And the new hockey arena is nearing completion. Mystery solved. It is actually a new bridge that they are going to install over I-94 on Sunday, July 10th. Amazing!

Michigan Central Train Station

May 20, 2009  Train Station currently owned by Mattie Marroon, Detroit slumlord and owner of the Ambassador Bridge. He allows the building to sit empty and open to the elements for decades until enough civic outcry when he pledges to install windows.       8/9/2015 He installs the windows but they are of cheap quality and not architecturally accurate.        6/24/2018 Ford Motor Company purchases the building to become part of their Autonomous Vehicle Program and opens the building this weekend to visitors before renovation begins.    8/5/2019 5/13/2020 10/8/20 3/16/2021 Starting to see progress
