Zakoor Party Supply Store

Remember the ugly bright yellow building across the street from Orchestra Hall on Woodward? It's been bulldozed. The good news they are still in business. They just moved a couple of buildings to the west.

Broderick Tower

Image
This development started before I started this blog. It is worth noting now because I think it is going to be amazing. Check out the website and especially the view of Comerica Park. I want to live there! Just added the photo in the lower right hand corner. All the new windows are in and when I went to choir practice last night there were a lot of lights on inside! A commons idea - Columns - Detroit Metro Times

A commons idea - Columns - Detroit Metro Times I'm kind of torn when I hear the word gentrification. I took a big step moving here. I thought I was doing a good thing with the idea of doing my part in helping Detroit recover from years of decline. I guess there might be some that don't see it that way. What do you think? Was I wrong or are these people just afraid of change?

Detroit Party Marching Band

Image
I know my focus is supposed to be about urban renewal but that could get boring. A couple of weeks ago Sue and I sat down to watch a movie and started to hear some drumming going on over on 2nd Avenue. It started out randomly and then picked up speed and you could tell this guy was really good. It wasn't some street artists pounding on plastic buckets, but sounded like real musical instruments. Then there was another drum and finally a whole band joined in and they were very good. I didn't think much about until we were sitting on our deck after Dally in the Alley and a friend mentioned this Detroit Party Marching Band and how they just show up at different events and take over the stage! As we were sitting there drinking our beers we suddenly here the sound of drums over on 2nd Avenue again. I grabbed my camera and ran over there and asked if they were the Detroit Party Marching Band and one guy said yes and another said no. They were crazy! I heard later that they marched dow...

Slow's to Go

Image
Slows To Go finally unveiled their new picnic tables outside the restaurant. They are very beautiful and HUGE as you can see. Probably created by some local woodworker. There are two of them. Come and check them out. And if you do stop by and say hi. I live one block west.

Midtown Housing Frenzy!

Image
I just heard that the building that you see below that was recently demolished on Cass is going to be a 56,000 sq. ft. residential and commercial building called the Auburn. It is just north of Slow's To Go which is at the corner of Alexandrine and Cass.

Old Police Station

Someone has begun construction on the old police station on Woodward Avenue. Anyone know what this is going to be?

New Hospital

Image
Here is a photo of the new hospital they are building just east of the Detroit Medical Center. After the acquisition by Vanguard they wasted no time in starting the construction of the new hospital. Here is the new hospital that I posted back last August. Notice the new construction to the right that is starting next. It is an office complex. I think the DMC wants to be like the Cleveland Clinic! Stay tuned.

Here is my first attempt at uploading an image to my new blog. This is the old police station (I think) in Mexican town that is being refurbished for whatever reason. If anyone has any information about this let me know.
Well I was told by my daughter's boyfriend that I should start a blog because I was always posting good things that are happening in Detroit on my Facebook page. Every day there is some type of good news about Detroit such as Whole Foods committing to Midtown as just one example. So here goes with my first attempt at a blog and so any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.
