Cobo Center obviously finished construction and for those that haven't heard, it is now called TCF Center. TCF Bank bought the naming rights and had a block party last summer.
Hold everything! TCF was bought out by Huntington Bank so it is now called Huntington Place. Change all the signs again!
Backtracking from my previous blogs from 6 years ago, the El Moore has been a huge success in Midtown since it opened. The most recent photo on the bottom is from 5 years ago when I was in the neighborhood. The park next door, that was built by the same people is gorgeous!
Wayne State University approved the $65 million Hilberry Gateway project in 2018, a renovation of the Hilberry Theatre (with the 350-seat Gretchen Valade Jazz Center and 110-seat Jazz Underground), development of a new venue (with a 550-seat main theatre and a 150 to 225-seat Studio Theatre) and outdoor performance and reception space between the two buildings. The Gateway will be the performance home for the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance and the Department of Music. Initial site work for the project included moving the historic Mackenzie House , built in 1895, to a former parking lot at 2nd and Forest in 2019. Opening is set for late 2022/2023 . I've been neglecting my own blog. I promise to do better and post more of my own stuff instead of another blog that will go unmentioned. Let me hear from you. Anyway, here is a photo of The El Moore which is moving along nicely. Notice the new windows. See the new El Moore page link on the right to keep you up to date with more photos.
